The Hamnavoe ferry uses this harbor to cross the North Sea and passes the stone stack known as the Old Man of Hoy (click for more White-line Woodblocks, including "Northern Lights," a view of the Old Man of Hoy)

It’s the story…the journey…the place…the people … the light upon the land….

The Orkney islands are north of the Scottish mainland.  Thousands of years ago, people found Orkney’s land arable and comforting.  They honored their relationship with the land at a time much earlier than Stonehenge and Callanish by marking it with their own great stone megaliths, henges, and tombs. Vikings later came to rob but instead left their runic writing on the stones.

Connect with the beauty of Orkney’s earth and sea, the hearts of its people, and the history of its stones and rolling hills through the stories and knowledge of local experts. Be filled with the widest of cloud filled skies…the rush of a racing stream…the woods and glens that delight earth spirits and fairies…and the roar of the sea as you explore the island.

Experience artistic inspiration with a small group of like-minded people. Lodge at a country manor house, rated by the Rough Guides as the “… most enchanting place to stay on Orkney!”  Enjoy food artistically prepared from organic, local ingredients and served on hand thrown pottery.

Uncover the story that Orkney and its stones inspire you to tell and create. Join us…
